2018 Conference Programme

Members of the Canadian Association of Postdoctoral Administrators include senior academic administrators and staff responsible for postdoctoral issues at universities and research organizations across Canada. Others interested in these issues (representatives of funding organizations, and of postdoctoral organizations) can be Associate Members.

Conference Keynote Speaker - Don Stewart

Clinical Psychologist, Professor, and Academic Administrator at the University of Manitoba

Dr. Don Stewart is a Clinical Psychologist, Professor, and Academic Administrator at the University of Manitoba. His current position is Executive Director, Student Support, reporting to the Vice-Provost (Students). His reporting units include the Student Counselling Centre, University Health Service, Student Advocacy, and Student Accessibility Services, along with the Health and Wellness, Student Threat Assessment, Spiritual Care, and Campus Mental Health portfolios.

Don earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Manitoba in 1991. After joining the U of M Counselling Service following graduation, he co-developed Canada's first APA/CPA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at a Canadian university counselling centre, where he served as Director of Training until 2001. In 2002 he became Director of the Student Counselling and Career Centre. From 2011-2013 Don was seconded to serve as the Director of the Psychological Service Centre, which is the training clinic for graduate students in Clinical Psychology at the U of M. He took up his current appointment in Student Support in October, 2013.

Conference Guest Speaker - Dietmar Kennepohl

Professor of Chemistry and Associate Vice President Academic at Athabasca University-Canada's Open University

Dietmar Kennepohl B.Sc.(Hons), Ph.D., FCIC is Professor of Chemistry and Associate Vice President Academic at Athabasca University-Canada's Open University. He is the Past President of the Humboldt Association of Canada and currently volunteers as the Director of the Humboldt Foundation Liaison Office in Canada (www.hfloc.ca ) which links Canadian scholars and researchers with funding opportunities and programs of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Most of his teaching experience has been in a distributed and online setting and he holds both university and national teaching awards. His research interests have included chemical education as well as petroleum, main group and coordination chemistry. His research in chemical education includes online chemistry courses and concentrates on the use of innovative distance delivery methods for undergraduate laboratory work. Dietmar is a well-published and sought-after presenter at local, national and international conferences. He has been a Humboldt Fellow since his post-doctoral work in 1990 and has subsequently been supported as a visiting professor at the Universität Göttingen (Germany) and Universität Freiburg (Germany) while on sabbatical leaves.
